 Finger Lakes Lavender Festival 2010

With just a short drive from the hustle and bustle of city life, the Lavender Festival is a perfect day in the country.   Not only is this event a celebration of all the wonders of lavender, but also an event that knits together local, talented artisans and food.  Workshops will be held on how to care and enjoy your lavender at 10:00am. Crafting with lavender (material cost is $5.00) will be held at 2:00pm both days.  Check our website for details on the times of our other demonstrations. The festival offers outstanding photographic opportunities throughout the grounds and at the workshops.
Lockwood Lavender Farm is a 120 acre family owned farm tucked in the beautiful hills overlooking Skaneateles Lake. We grow 18 varieties of lavender and offer "U-Pick" for the flowers during the summer and lovely soap, lotions, creams and aromatherapy products for your purchase. We are excited to be developing our farm for the enjoyment of our guests.

Festival activities occur outdoors rain or shine.  Dress casually to ensure your comfort.  Lockwood Lavender Farm is a working farm with unpaved pathways. It is accessible, but there is uneven terrain on the grounds and in the fields.

Directions to Lockwood Lavender Farm:  From the village of Skaneateles take Kane Road/41A.  Continue south on West Lake Road/41A 8 miles.  Past the hamlet of Mandana, we are the first farm past fire lane 50 on the left hand side.

Updates for the festival will be posted on Finger Lakes Lavender Festival website.

Busy beezzzzzz

Its been a busy week on the farm. Wheat and lavender have been harvested, the straw has been baled and the lavender is hanging in the drying barn. The lavender market is still open for visitors on Saturday and Sunday through August and I am busy trying to keep up with orders.

Don't flowers make you smile.

Come on Blanket and George its time to go back to the barn.  Mom is looking for you.

I have been trying to find some time to write thank you notes to all of our lavender festival volunteers and a note to the press about the sale of our Royal Velvet Lavender plants to benefit the Skaneateles Historical Society expansion. Over a 3 weekend time frame we sold 400 plants. A check for $1000 was presented to Joan Thompsen during the festival.  When I placed the order we thought we would be planting at least 300 of them. We now realize that others love lavender as much as we do. We will definitely order more for next year.

Presenting Joan a check for $1000 for the Skaneateles Historical Society expansion.

Early Bloomers

We're just weeks away from full bloom...take a look!

This "Folgate" variety of lavender is one of the first to bloom.

"Dark Supreme" is about a week away from blooming.

My favorite "Royal Velvet".

This intermedia variety, "Gros Bleu" is weeks away from blooming.  It will make great lavender wands after it is harvested.

This 5 year old, Intermedia "Grosso" will be ready for the Finger Lakes Lavender Festival.
